Latest News!

Hi all

We thought we’d give you an update on the KCF and the fantastic things people have done in the past 6 months. We are, very nearly, at £75,000. This is a phenomenal achievement and we’d like to thank everyone for their efforts – it is extremely humbling to know we are so supported in what we are doing.

The final numbers are in from the first Katie Compson Foundation dinner! We raised an incredible £11,029 on the night through auction prizes, raffles, and ticket sales. Thank you all for your attendance and generosity. We would also like to thank those who couldn’t attend but gave generous donations – you are too kind. You’ll all be pleased to know that we’re starting to plan the next dinner, it will be in London and will be in May/June next year. Prepare yourselves for an awesome night!

Jaki Amos completed her amazing 31 mile run in October, raising nearly £5000. It was a wonderful day, where we were able to fundraise on the way round thanks to the generosity of the general public, whilst encouraging and trying to keep up with Jaki as she passed through every tube station on the Jubilee Line. Thank you to Darryl, Chops and Barry for such amazing efforts as support crew, and a massive thank you to Jaki for being mad enough to go through with it!!

Emma Sharrock has continued her fundraising efforts in Hong Kong. She and another great friend Charlie Barton managed to combine a good party with raising money for us. They had a final “junk trip” to coincide with Charlie’s birthday and Halloween – and asked for donations as part of the ticket sales. These girls are going far! We had another £300 from this party alone….and we hope their hangovers are starting to now subside!

Do not forget to sign up to the Marsden March next year if you would like to join the Compson Crew – it is a fabulous day and we’d love as many of you to join us as possible.

We are very privileged to also have been nominated for an award! Passionate Pink was set up by our lovely friend Deb Little supporting charities as well as raising funds for the Little Wish Foundation. Sarah and Elise have both been lucky enough to be nominated for an award, and all the Compsons are going to Blenhelm Palace in December for the Passionate Hearts Awards Ceremony. We will be sure to update you with the events of the night!

We are soon to have a meeting with the team at the Royal Marsden to discuss where this money will be going. They are very aware of what Katie wanted the money raised to go towards, and they are aiming to introduce us to doctors and researchers who are in desperate need of money to carry out research projects into curing cancer, as well as providing improved pain management nationally. We are really excited about what we can achieve.

So, as we approach the second anniversary of losing our gorgeous girl, we are so proud to be doing something that she would love to have been a part of. We hold our heads high, and know that she would be telling us to get on and raise more – it is such a good cause and in memory of an amazing lady. Please get in touch if you would like to do some fundraising for us, we would be delighted to support you in your efforts in any way we can.

With love,

Sarah, Jenny, Pete & Elise xxxx

Katie Compson Foundation Dinner

On Thursday 19th September the great and good of Suffolk descended on Smeetham Hall Barn for the first Katie Compson Foundation fundraising dinner. An amazing turn out all with a touch of bling, 128 people ate beautiful food, drank some fantastic wine, and put their hands in their pockets all to raise money for the KCF. We are still waiting for the final amount to be announced, but I can confidently say that we raised over £10,000 for Katie. What an incredible night – thank you to every single one of you who made it possible!

Crossing Scotland for Katie

BarryAnother person fundraising for Katie!
Barry is a keen cyclist….and is easily convinced to sign up to some absolutely ridiculous challenges by his friends. For this we are extremely thankful! Barry is starting his dual challenge by joining the Prudential bike ride around London on 3rd August. Starting out from the Olympic Park, taking in the killer Leith Hill and the famous zig zags of Box Hill he will be aiming to cycle for over 100 miles. For most people this would be tough enough, however this is just his starter challenge. In September, with two friends, Barry will be heading north to Scotland to take part in the Coast to Coast challenge which consists of the following:

7 mile run, 48 mile road cycle, 1.5 mile kayak, 16 mile off road cycle, 17 mile road cycle, 14 mile hill trek, 1 mile kayak.

Most normal people would do this challenge over 2 days….they have decided to do it in one. More information on the race can be found here:  http://www.scotlandcoasttocoast.com/

He is doing all of this – 204.5 miles in total – for Katie, so please sponsor him at www.justgiving.com/barry-case

Thank you! xxx

Jaki’s October Challenge

As often happens over a glass of wine and pizza night, we’ve come up with some brilliant yet completely nuts fund raising ideas. Sarah and her friend Jaki were doing just that when Jaki had a light bulb moment to come up with the ultimate challenge. On October 5th, she will run the length of the Jubilee Line in London.

The route will see her run through 27 stations, 4 river crossings, and over 30 miles (48km) in total – the length of an Ultra Marathon. She will have a picture taken at each tube stop with a member of TFL staff, and will use boat, cable car and her poor feet to get this challenge complete. Her longest run to date is 13 miles back in 2010, and since then has not run further than the bus stop. But Jaki is putting heart and soul into this challenge – all for the Katie Compson Foundation.

She has 12 weeks to train, a toddler (and number one supporter) Chops to raise, and a company to run. We’re immensely proud of her taking this on.

Please donate to help her reach her target of £5000 by visiting www.justgiving.com/jakiamos

Thank you!! xxx

Iceland’s Team Runtur challenging the minds of Hong Kong

quiz1On 20th June Jamie and Emma Sharrock called on the people of Hong Kong to put their hands in their pockets, their pens to paper, and to rack their brains for a pub quiz night aiming to raise money for the Katie Compson Foundation. A fabulous night, with great raffle prizes, taxing questions, and a lot of laughter managed to raise over $9000 (over £750).

A big thanks to all those who attended, congratulations to the winning team, and lots of love to Jamie and Emma for organising such an amazing event. xxx

Iceland calling!

sharrocks

(Jamie, Sarah & Katie, supporting Emma and friend Sophie, with Sam wondering what all the fuss is about!)

In August 2013, Jamie, Emma and Sam Sharrock will be doing an epic walk in memory of Katie. The Sharrocks have known us for the past 15 years and have grown up with Katie and Sarah in Suffolk remaining very close friends as they travelled around the world. Often coming together to escort their parents home, or join them for a glass or two of wine.

They have decided, in true Sharrock style, that they are not going to do just ANY walk. They will be walking 250km across Iceland as part of the RacingThePlanet series. This is an amazing adventure for them all, and training is in full swing already – mainly in Hong Kong where Jamie and Emma currently live, and Sam is using the fabulous landscape of Wales as his training ground.

London Marathon 2014

Already we’re hearing of friends who would like to run next years marathon in memory of Katie. The ballot opened, and closed, within hours on the 29th April, but we’ve put some feelers out and hopefully we’ll have a group running next year and raising money for the Royal Marsden in memory of Katie. Watch this space!

The Marsden March 2013

DSC_1537On March 17th 2013 we watched the heavens open, and grabbed 35 willing (at the start at least) friends and family, and headed out to walk 14 miles between the two hospitals.

For us, it is always emotional coming back to the Royal Marsden, but it makes us more determined to raise money to keep them working on such vital research and treatment. It was a beautiful day in every sense bar the weather! We walked between the RMH Chelsea, and RMH Sutton, with an incredible support crew (Pete, Chris & Macca) who provided a picnic at Mile 9, continual cheering at every potential location, and a lift to the pub at the end. Thank you to everyone who took part – you’re all amazing!

We have managed to raise over £9,000 this year, which is a great achievement. Donations are going directly into the Katie Compson Foundation so we’d love any further contributions – donations can be made HERE

Photos from the event can be found in the Gallery!
